Magic Resistant
Magic Resistant adds 40% to a unique monster's fire, cold and lightning resistance. On a monster that already resists, that is enough to make it immune.
What Magic Resistant does
- +40% to cold, then fire, then lightning resistance, each only while it is below 100%.
- It doesn't change magic, poison or physical resistance, despite the name.
- It can create an immunity, but never a third one, and it doesn't raise a resistance when the monster already has two or more immunities.
- Against an immunity it helped create,
Conviction,
Lower Resist only work at a fifth of their value. - Uniques never roll it in Normal.
Fighting a Magic Resistant monster
- An immunity from Magic Resistant is broken like any other: with the Sundered Charm of its element, Latent or Renewed (
Latent Flame Rift,
Latent Cold Rupture or
Latent Crack of the Heavens), or with
Conviction or
Lower Resist at a fifth of their value. - Elemental characters often skip a Magic Resistant unique and leave it to their mercenary.
Which monsters get it
Every modifier a unique monster rolls is drawn from the same pool, so each roll has the chance below of being Magic Resistant. See how special monsters get their modifiers.
| Normal | Nightmare | Hell |
|---|---|---|
| never | 7.7% | 7.7% |
- Its minions don't get the resistances.
