How to add sockets to an Item
Adding Sockets by Larzuk
After completing the Siege on Harrogath quest, Larzuk will offer to socket one non-socketed item. This quest is often referred to as the Larzuk Socket quest. Each character can use this feature only three times, for each difficulty.
When used on a normal item, Larzuk will always add the maximum amount of sockets the item can have. This takes into account the item level, but not player level or difficulty. The maximum amount of sockets an item can roll with depends on the iLevel of the item. The iLevel is equal to the monster level (mLevel) the item dropped from, the mLevel is equal to the area level (aLevel). Champions will have an mLevel of aLevel+2, Uniques and their minions aLevel+3, and Super Uniques will have a predefined mLevel. Check the base detail pages for more details.
Magic items will have 50/50 chance of receiving either 1 or 2 sockets when eligible.
Set, Unique, Rare, and Crafted items will always receive only 1 socket when eligible.
Horadric Cube Socketing Recipes
Preparing your Item
You can also add sockets with the following horadric cube recipes. These recipes will not work for low quality items or superior items. You can transmute low quality items to normal quality items with other cube recipes.
