The Gnasher is a unique 
Hand Axe found in Diablo 2 Resurrected.
The Gnasher is carried through early Normal for its 20% Chance of Crushing Blow, which removes a share of the target's current life on each hit. That scales with the monster's health pool rather than with the axe's damage, which is what lets a level 5 weapon threaten Act bosses at all. The 50% Chance of Open Wounds adds bleed damage and stops the target from regenerating life, and the +8 to Strength covers the requirement of armor and shields well above the character's level.
Deathspade becomes available at level 9 with far more raw damage, but nothing that replaces Crushing Blow, so The Gnasher stays the better option against high-life targets for a while after the swap looks obvious.
How to upgrade The Gnasher
You can upgrade The Gnasher to a Hatchet with the following cube recipe:
1 Ral Rune + 1 Sol Rune + 1 Perfect Emerald + The Gnasher
When upgrading The Gnasher to a Hatchet the level requirement will increase to level 24.
