Hero Editor Guide

Welcome to the user guide on using the Hero Editor for Diablo II: Resurrected! This tool is for those looking to customize their characters with precision. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to perform most actions within the user interface

1. Getting Started with Hero Editor

• Upon opening the Hero Editor, you'll be presented with options to either "Load Existing Character" or "Create New Character."
• Navigate to your Diablo II: Resurrected save files, typically located in:
• Windows: C:\Users\[Your Username]\Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected
• Select the .d2s file associated with your character to start editing.

2. Adding New Items

Navigate to the Item Editor:

• Once you've loaded your character, look for the "Equipment," "Stash," or "Cube" sections at the top of the Hero Editor interface.
• Click on an empty slot or the "Add Item" button to open the item creation dialog.

Search for Items:

• Use the search bar to find the item you wish to add. You can search by item name, type, or specific properties (e.g., "Enigma," "Archon Plate," etc.).
• The search function is intuitive, allowing you to quickly locate specific items or runewords.

Add the Item:

• Select the amount of each item you want to add
• Once all selections are made, click "Add Item(s)" to place it in your inventory, stash, or cube. The item will appear in the slot you selected, ready for further modification.

3. Editing Existing Items

Select the Item to Edit:

Click on any item in your Equipment, Stash, or Cube slots to open the Item Editor.

Modify Item Attributes:

• Magic Attributes: These are the primary modifiers on your item (e.g., +% Enhanced Damage, +% Resist All). You can edit these attributes or add new ones by clicking the pencil icon next to the attribute.
• Runeword Attributes: If the item is a runeword, you can directly edit the properties granted by the runeword. For example, an "Enigma" runeword in an Archon Plate might have attributes like +2 to All Skills, +45% Faster Run/Walk, etc.
• Sockets: You can add or remove sockets, change socketed runes, or gems, and even specify the exact attributes of the socketed items. When you add runes for a runeword, the item will turn into a runeword when you load it into the game
• Item Base and Quality: You can change the base item type (e.g., converting a "Superior Archon Plate" to a "Superior Mage Plate") or upgrade/downgrade the item’s quality.

Special Modifications:

• Ethereal and Identified Flags: Toggle whether an item is ethereal or identified.
• Upgrade/Downgrade: Quickly change an item’s tier from normal to exceptional or elite (or reverse).
• Save and Apply Changes:

After making the desired changes, click "Save" to apply them. The edited item will now reflect all the modifications you've made.

4. General Tab: Character Overview

• Character Name: Modify your character's name up to 15 characters.
• Toggle options for Expansion, Ladder (doesn't make much sense in Single Player), Hardcore.
• Resurrect a Dead Character (HC)
• Level and Experience: Directly adjust your character's level and experience points.
• Map Seed: read the current map seed (and change?)
• Stats: Manually edit your character's Strength, Dexterity, Energy, Vitality, and remaining points.
• Health and Mana: Change your character's current and maximum HP and Mana.
• Stamina: Adjust your character's stamina stats.

5. Quests Tab: Manage Your Progress

You can unlock or reset all quests per difficulty level (Normal, Nightmare, Hell).

Note that resetting a quest will also reset its rewards, which might be irreversible if done incorrectly.

6. Waypoints Tab: Fast Travel Unlocked

Unlock or reset specific waypoints across all acts and difficulties.

Quickly navigate through the game by enabling waypoints in crucial locations without needing to visit them in-game.

7. Skills Tab: Customize Your Build

• Reset your entire skill tree with a single click.
• Manually adjust skill points across the Skill tabs.
• Ensure that your character's skills are distributed to your preference without in-game limitations.

8. Equipment and Stash: Ultimate Gear Control

Equipment Editor:

• View and modify your character's equipped items and inventory.
• Change base items, upgrade or downgrade their quality, and adjust socketed runes or gems.
• For instance, you can create a perfect "Enigma" in a Superior Archon Plate with the exact stats you desire.

Stash Management:

• Manage your character's stash and cube contents.
• Use the virtual stash feature to store additional items not currently in your physical stash.

9. Save and Export

• Once satisfied with your edits, click "Save to File" to apply changes to your character.
• Move the Downloaded file to your save folder: C:\Users\[Your Username]\Saved Games\Diablo II Resurrected
• You can also export presets for future use or sharing with others.

10. Additional Tips and Tricks

Utilize the tips provided within the Hero Editor interface for advanced modifications like reanimating monsters or altering set/unique items.

@Kim H, did you replace the files when the game was closed? That is required otherwise the files are immediatly overwritten by the game.

Not sure what the latest version is, but best to update to the latest version

the editor works with just a .d2s file. If you think the .key file is the problem, take any .key file and rename it to your character name. But it shouldn't be necessary, if the game crashes, that's an issue with the .d2s file itself.

Did you use the same attribute like on the Sunder charms? Because I know there are 2 attributes that look similar, one works, the other doesn't

No. Make sure the game is closed when replacing the save file with the edited file.

"Is the hero editor compatible with saves from ReMoDDeD mod?" -> by default, mods work, but not all functionalities of the mod, like stackable items for example or expanded stash

Since it's probably not on the latest version, it will not work. The save file format is different.

Yes, you should actually use the "Adds #-# Damage" property, this will add a +min dmg and +max dmg stat. You can safely remove the +min dmg stat and edit the +max dmg stat.

Make sure you are using the latest version of d2r. Remove the file from your save folder if you want to use that name again.
