Infinity in Diablo 2 Resurrected is the runeword ‘BerMalBerIst’. To create it, you need to insert a Ber rune, Mal rune, Ber rune and Ist rune in a 4 socket polearm. Make sure to put the runes in the right order and that the base item has exactly 4 sockets, or else the runeword will not work.
Choosing the optimal base for Infinity
The recommended base to make Infinity is a Thresher or a Giant Thresher.
When using Infinity on a mercenary, the base should ideally be ethereal. Ethereal items have 10 less Strength and Dexterity requirements, and 50% more damage or defense. When used on a mercenary, they won't lose durability. There are in total 5 eligible bases. The Colossus Voulge, Thresher, Cryptic Axe, Great Poleaxe and Giant Thresher.
What to look out for
Looking purely at base weapon attack speed, the fastest bases are the Thresher and Giant Thresher. The base with the highest damage is the Cryptic Axe. For a mercenary, high weapon speed modifiers are usually preferred over high damage weapons.
The base with the lowest strength requirement is the Thresher. The Thresher only requires 152 Strength to equip. Strength requirements are an important decision factor on a mercenary, because there is no real way of giving them more Strength, apart from leveling or gear. Besides gear, when reaching a certain level, it can take a long time to increase their Strength, because each level only adds +1.5 Strength for the Desert Mercenary. For reference, the Holy Freeze Desert Mercenary has 169 base Strength at level 75.
If you only take into account how easy it is to obtain the right base with the right amount of sockets, the Colossus Voulge is the easiest to obtain. Since the Colossus Voulge can only have a maximum of 4 sockets, Larzuk will guarantee a 4 socket base.
|Colossus Voulge||25.5 - 247.5 (136.5)||200||45||4||10|
|Thresher||18 - 211.5 (114.75)||142||108||5||-10|
|Cryptic Axe||49.5 - 225 (137.25)||155||93||5||10|
|Great Poleaxe||69 - 190.5 (129.75)||169||89||6||0|
|Giant Thresher||60 - 171 (115.5)||178||130||6||-10|
Since the Thresher and Giant Thresher both have the highest weapon speed and comparable average damage, they are both the best option. The Giant Thresher has marginally more damage output than a Thresher, but this is negligible. When looking at the Strength requirement, the Thresher can be the more usable option, since the Giant Thresher's Strength requirement easily surpasses your Mercenary's Strength on a moderately high level.
The Cryptic Axe on the other hand has the highest average damage, but is the slowest polearm. This makes the average damage output lower than the (Giant) Thresher and has less chances to proc because of the lower attack speed.
Where to find
A 4 socket Thresher can be found earliest in Hell difficulty. Since a 4 socket Thresher can only drop from level 71 areas or higher (from normal monsters), the earliest area you can find this base in is The Den of Evil, which has an area level of 79.
Obtaining the runes for Infinity
All of the runes for this recipe are hard to find. Because it requires multiple high runes, this recipe is particularly hard to make.
|mal||Completing the Hellforge Quest on Hell difficulty|
|ist||Completing the Hellforge Quest on Hell difficulty|
|ber||Farming high density areas in Act 3 or higher on Hell difficulty|
The benefits of Infinity
Infinity takes a top spot as overpowered runeword because it is the best mercenary runeword for characters that deal elemental damage. The Conviction Aura granted by this aura runeword reduces enemy defenses and lowers enemy cold, fire, and lightning resistances.
Even though the runeword provides additional reduced Enemy Lightning Resistance, this only applies for the wielder of the polearm. So when using this for your mercenary, this will only boost the Chain Lightning procs from the runeword. When using Infinity for a mercenary, the best base is an ethereal (Giant) Thresher.
The high cost of 2 Ber runes makes this a very rare runeword.
The resulting runeword will have the following stats. Since this runeword has varying attributes, you might end up with an undesirable item if the attributes didn't roll high enough. The important variable attributes are highlighted below.
- 50% Chance To Cast Level 20 Chain Lightning When You Kill An Enemy
- Level 12 Conviction Aura When Equipped
- +35% Faster Run/Walk
- +255-325% Enhanced Damage (varies)
- -45-55% To Enemy Lightning Resistance (varies)
- 40% Chance of Crushing Blow
- Prevent Monster Heal
- +(0.5*Clvl) To Vitality (Based on Character Level)
- 30% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items
- Level 21 Cyclone Armor (30 Charges)
